Here is how to do a uncomplicated color pencil landscape drawing.
I would similar to notation that I had to heighten the photos of the pencil sketches so you could see them meliorate, that'southward why the lighting seems different on all of them. If you click on the smaller images they will pop upward larger for y'all. Also, please note that yous absolutely should change things around. This just gives you a general idea well-nigh how to describe a landscape, where you put trees, houses, hills, bushes and flowers in your film is completely up to y'all! The near important matter is to have fun with it, and not give up.
These are the pencils I used for this project: PRISMACOLOR PENCILS (I love the actress large pack, simply in that location are smaller size packs available) and this is the paper: Strathmore Vellum Bristol Newspaper Pad .
Start by approximating where your horizon will be. Information technology volition be erased and covered by hills later, then merely a prissy calorie-free line. Draw a few mountains in the groundwork.
Draw little bunches of trees beneath the mountains. The trees are far away and all they wait similar is wavy little hills.
It is time to erase the horizon line and replace information technology with some background hills, similar in the photo in a higher place.
Likewise, I thought my mountains were too small, so I drew bigger ones in the back, and will make the smaller mountains into a layer of big pine trees.
At present draw two hills in the front. The hills you would exist continuing on if you lot were there looking out. And a little group of pine copse on the colina beyond.
Add together some bushes in the foreground. Similar backside the second loma in the picture above. Again, the bushes are just curly piddling shapes.
Behind those bushes there is a house. I starting time with a uncomplicated geometrical shape, a triangle, and 2 lines going down.
Then add the roof line extending over and running parallel to the ground. Technically it'due south more than of a roof superlative then a house.
Add the footling church building tower in the dorsum, with a triangular roof on top. Add a few windows equally well. When working with colored pencils I find it easier to think almost the small details ahead of time.
Start the trees around the first business firm, equally well every bit behind it. To see how to draw a unproblematic tree take a look at the picture below.
Add another little roof of another firm, and a few more trees to consummate the town.
Add another piffling roof of some other house, and a few more than trees to complete the town.
Next comes the big tree in the foreground. I start by indicating the area where the roots run across the footing. Await on the lower left corner of the sketch in a higher place.
Start extending the trunk up. Begin indicating where the largest branches will be. You can erase the mountains behind the branches a flake subsequently.
Add several large branches. Merely a few. From each larger branch brand the smaller ones come out in a V shape.
Finish up the principal branches, and erase the hills, mountains and bushes that the branches are blocking.
Add bunches of leaves. I wouldn't carp with private leaves, simply bunches work well. Also in the very front I added some flowers that abound close up.
After calculation a few more flowers in the front end, I felt similar my sketch was consummate. Now information technology is time to decide where your light is coming from. I thought that upper left would be the lord's day position for me.
It is time to first coloring it all in! I started with the tree. Using a black pencil, I shaded the side opposite of the where the dominicus is coming through. Using light strokes.
Also at this betoken I have made a determination to color the tree in lightly, simply to make it more defined. So I would proceed with the residuum of the drawing, coloring everything until information technology'southward washed. After that I would come back to the tree and finish it to the cease as well.
For the next few steps, I was just shading in the tree trunk. I also added some shadows for the pino copse in the back.
Afterward I worked with some black on the tree trunk, I did some nighttime brown, then light brown. Don't forget that the shadow falls abroad from the lord's day.
Color in the leaves to indicate where they are going to be placed. Start with a night green colour, colour them in little green curly lines.
Color them a little more using a lighter dark-green, drawing over the branches when the leaves are in front end of them.
Keep working on the tree until you take a good thought of where everything volition fall on the page. Shade the tree, but not too completion, it will be finished afterward on. Once your tree is semi-finished, it is time to start coloring everything else.
I started with the grass on the hills upward close, advisedly going effectually the flowers at first. Using light green vertical strokes on the closest hill to resemble blades of grass. Also, I added some of the lite green color to the groundwork hills.
When doing the grass and hills I like to overlay dissimilar kinds of green together. I offset with a light green, add some night light-green, olive green, browns, and fifty-fifty some yellow.
If the hill is up close I similar the vertical strokes to indicate blades of grass. If the hill is further away I make the strokes even and blend the colors in more evenly.
Look on the photograph above to see an up shut detail of the colina that is up on the front.
Keep going with the front hills. After the initial go with the low-cal green, I added some darker green to the further hill, and more brilliant dark-green and chocolate-brown colors to the front one.
Later on I semi-finished the two hills, I started doing the flowers. At get-go, it is simply a night shadows on the leaves and stems, using dark chocolate-brown or black pencil.
Using a lighter brown, or an olive green, I did a fleck more than shadows on the leaves and stems. I also add color to the hills as I work on the flowers. At this bespeak I also realized that I have two sets of mountains, so I change the smaller ones into a row of pino trees.
I keep calculation some dark green to the leaves, and now making the flowers yellow with brownish centers. Add a little light-green to the bushes, too some darker dark-green to the pine trees in the dorsum, and the line of pines way out by the mountains.
I finished the flowers by using light dark-green to get right over the darker colors, pressing fairly difficult. Followed by a white pencil over the calorie-free dark-green, besides pressing hard, and over the yellow flowers. I decided to practice the bush behind that tall flower first, so that I could exist washed with that whole area.
After the flowers I did the 2 hills behind them, and the bush. This way the background behind the flowers will exist done. Using a darker greens for the further loma, and lighter ones for the colina close upwardly, I layer the colors, carefully going around each flower.
Finish upwardly the hills past choosing one or two greens and coloring with enough pressure and then that no white from paper is showing. I as well added some shading and green to the bushes.
Later on I was done with the front hills and the flowers, it was fourth dimension for the sky. Using sky blue, and cloud bluish, I colored in the sky. Darker when information technology'south next to the mountains and lighter going upwardly.
I added more shadows to the bushes. Darker on the bottom right, abroad from the sun. Also, finish up the heaven using a white pencil.
Add some emerald green to the bushes, and the aforementioned green for the copse way out past the mountains.
Finish up the bushes by using a really lite green, and applying plenty force per unit area to no longer see the white of the paper. Also get started on the rooftops and the copse in the town. I also add color to other things, a little bit, like the mountains now have a light grey tint. Too I did some brown on the trunks of the trees.
Here is a photo a bit closer upwardly. I decided on the colors of the buildings. The church got a light deject gray shadow, and more often than not white. The other trivial firm is a light pink. The sides facing abroad from the sun are darker than the ones facing it. Don't forget to start that alpine pine tree past the church building by using some olive green.
Terminate upwards the roofs and the houses, again, making sure the white of the paper is not showing through. Even though the church is white, it is the result of using a white pencil, not white paper. I also added some shutters and window frames to the windows. I too didn't particularly similar the pink of the firm on the right, so I changed it to a reddish brownish instead.
Now I decided is a skillful time for the mountains. A flake back I did a solid greyness color on them, applying the pencil with calorie-free pressure level, nice and fifty-fifty. Now I took a darker grey and added shadows where the mountains are facing away from the sun. I besides added some olive green to the background pine trees, and some more shadows to the picayune group of pines on the hillside.
I add some more greenish to the pine trees, the bushes, the trees past the church, and the large pine tree next to it and the bush on the edge of the loma. Keep in listen that the farther away things are the more blue/grey colors you need to add to them!
Focusing on the next two hills up forepart, I used a light dark-green to shade the i on the right, and brand stripes on the one on the left. Besides finish the bushes over the hills. Also, I added a mix of different greens to the trees behind the church, and more color to the large pine tree.
Using dissimilar light greens and yellows, layer the colour on the remaining hills. Adding some brown to the edges volition assistance to distinguish one hill from some other. Cease up the large pine by the church building.
Apply more pressure with a green, yellow or white to the hills shut up to finish them. As earlier, brand sure the layer of color is thick plenty for the paper to non show through.
Do the same with the remaining hills, including the darker area under the pine trees for the shadow that they give off.
Next, if y'all await at the line of trees all the way back by the mountains, I added some grays, blues, and bluish green, and finished them upwards.
Using some olive green, and some lighter green I cease up the grove of pine trees in the back.
When things are farther away there is also less item involved, more outlines and blocks of shadow and low-cal.
Back to working on the mountains, I added some blues, purples, grays to the areas away from the sun, and white to the areas facing the sun, making them consummate. Also, added some greyness colors to the row of pines at the edge there, blending them in with the mountains.
After everything else is washed, information technology is time to get back and work on the tree. I start by adding some black thick lines to prove the shadows.
Adjacent, using a dark brown I add more pencil lines going from peak to bottom to indicate bark. I exit the areas facing the sunday a scrap lighter.
Terminate upwards the tree with some low-cal brown.
At present cease the leaves on the tree with a few different green colors.
After I was done, I idea information technology would look overnice to cleave something on the tree, so with a abrupt white pencil I drew 2 hearts right over the night tree trunk. Now it's all done!
